Designed around the session

Keep the controls close.

01 / THE CHAIN

Five effects. Your choices.

Load compatible stereo VST3 effects into five serial inserts. Bypass each insert individually and open its native editor. Your effects and their licenses stay yours.

02 / THE MONITOR

A dedicated listening level.

Control monitor gain and mute alongside stereo peak meters. The monitor starts muted, so you choose when to begin listening.

03 / THE ROUTINE

Save a rack. Return to it.

Save and restore plugin states and bypass settings. Keep a vocal chain ready for your next session without rebuilding it from scratch.

04 / DISCOVERY

Find the effect inside WaveShell.

Choose a WaveShell and select a stereo effect from its catalog. Discovery and preflight run in a separate scanner process with cancellation and timeout.

05 / AUDIO SETUP

Choose your audio path.

Use the Windows low-latency profile for built-in audio or the native ASIO/Audient profile for an appropriate interface. Select the actual device and buffer in Audio settings.

06 / CLEAR REPORTING

See what the chain reports.

Inspect buffer time, reported driver and effect latency, and export a diagnostic report. Reported values are distinct from measured physical round-trip latency.

Before your first session

Know what’s in the box.

Your download

  • TheOakRack 0.4.0 Windows installer and uninstaller
  • Setup and routing guide
  • Complete corresponding source archive
  • AGPL license and third-party notices

The installer is for the current user. Runtime DLLs are bundled app-locally; no audio driver is installed.

What you’ll need

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • A microphone input and headphone output with a suitable audio driver
  • Your own licensed, compatible stereo VST3 effects
  • Compatible hardware with outputs 3/4 if using the optional post-effects recording send

VST2, instruments, mono-only effects and macOS are not supported in this release.

Early access, clearly stated.

The installer and application are unsigned. Offline engine, scanner and installation tests passed. Full physical microphone testing, actual round-trip latency, simultaneous DAW driver sharing and long-session stability remain unverified. Performance depends on your devices, drivers, buffer and plugins.

A few useful details

Before you buy.

Is this a plugin or a standalone app?

TheOakRack is a standalone Windows VST3 host for microphone monitoring. It hosts effects you supply; it is not a VST3 effect you load inside a DAW.

Does “Virtual DSP interface” mean hardware DSP?

No. Effects run on your computer’s CPU. TheOakRack does not provide dedicated DSP hardware, UAD DSP plugin support or Unison integration.

Are effects included?

No third-party plugins are included. Bring your own licensed stereo VST3 effects. Waves WaveShell discovery is supported, but compatibility with every plugin and editor is not established.

Can I record the processed signal in my DAW?

An optional post-effects send uses physical outputs 3/4 on compatible hardware. It is before the monitor fader and mute, so muting the monitor does not mute that send. Loopback routing and simultaneous DAW driver access need testing on your setup; no virtual audio driver is installed.

How much latency should I expect?

It depends on your hardware, driver, buffer and effects. The dashboard reports driver and effect latency; those figures are not an external round-trip measurement. There is no zero-latency or particular buffer-size guarantee.

What does the open-source license allow?

The application is distributed under AGPL-3.0-or-later with corresponding source included. Buying this distribution does not remove your applicable rights to use, study, modify and redistribute it. Third-party components and your plugins retain their own licenses.

Is US$29 a subscription?

No. This is a one-time US$29 purchase for this early-access distribution. No recurring membership is part of this product.
